The Societies are pleased to announce two new full-day seminars on studio lighting.

Join Simon Burfoot and Brian Collier from The Flash Centre for a full-day seminar on Introduction to Studio Lighting in Birmingham on the 5th April 2017 or Chester on the 2 May 2017.

Simon says, “This course is aimed at the photographer who wants to take their images to the next level. We will explain and demonstrate just how easy it is to use off camera flash with the minimum amount of equipment allowing you to create different looks to ensure you stand out from the crowd.  Please be assured that this is a training day and not a sales day. The techniques we will show are relevant to any type of off camera flash system including speedlites. ”

Lisa Beaney – Adobe Lightroom for Photographers – Full-Day Photography Seminars

The Societies are pleased to announce three new full-day seminars with UK wedding photographer Lisa Beaney.

Lisa will be bringing her ‘Adobe Lightroom for Photographers’ seminar to Hull on the 25th April, Newcastle upon Tyne on the 26th April and to Glasgow on the 27th April 2017.

Lisa will be teaching photographers how to use Adobe Lightroom to its full potential. These seminars will take you through everything you need to know to get the photos from your camera through to the finished version either printed or delivered digitally to your client.

These seminars are limited on space, so booking early is advised to ensure your place at one of these classes.

The Societies’ Monthly Image Competition January 2017 – Results Announced

We are pleased to announce the results of the January 2017 Monthly Image Competition.

993 images were entered in to January’s competition. 37 photographs were awarded a Gold award and 75 images achieved a Highly Commended.

You are invited to submit speaking proposals for The Societies’ 2018 Convention in London, UK at the Hilton London Metropole hotel. Join world-renowned photographers and industry experts as we kick-start the 2018 photography calendar.

Speakers Selection

Speakers proposals will be selected based on suitability and significance of topic as well as indications that the presentation will be organised and well prepared. We will also consider balance in the range of topics, level of expertise and the interests covered.

Speaker proposals should contain the following information:

  • Name of person presenting.
  • Speaker’s Bio – Each session will consist of one speaker unless otherwise approved by The Societies of Photographers.
  • Advise if a demonstration will be provided and, if so, provide details of any special equipment needed to support your presentation or demonstration

The Societies’ Photographer of the Year Awards 2016 Results Announced


The Societies of Photographers are pleased to announce the twenty six category winners and the overall winner of their 2016 Photographer  of the Year Awards.

The competition is a truly international success with 10,468 entrants from all four corners of the globe entering via monthly categories from nature, architectural, landscapes, sport, monochrome…to all styles of wedding and portraiture.

Darrin Zammit Lupi from Malta was awarded the coveted Photographer of the Year by The Societies during the Awards Dinner at their annual Convention and London Photo Show. Over four hundred guests were present at the Awards Dinner in London Saturday January 14.

The judges commented, “This image captures geometry combined with a definitive moment. The gentleman in the hat is a wonderful focal point.”

In addition to receiving his trophy Darrin also walked away with a Fujifilm XT2 Camera with XF518-55mm Lens and a fully paid ticket to the WPPI Convention in Las Vegas with a flight and 5 nights Accommodation to the value of £3,200.00.

Darrin says “A night I’ll remember for the rest of my life. Awarded 1st Place Overall Photographer of the Year 2016, as well as Street Photographer of the Year, at The Societies for Photographers in London .”

He continues “The photo which clinched it was taken a few months ago at the entrance to Valletta”

The ‘big guns’ of the photo industry are gearing up for the 2017 Photo Trade Show in London.

Canon, Olympus, Sony, Fujifilm, Manfrotto, Elinchrom, Adobe and Zeiss are just some of the leading companies lined up to show their products at The Societies’ London Convention and Trade Show.

To date bookings have been flooding in with attendees eager to see what is on offer and to build their ‘wish list’ of gear for their upcoming year.
