Suzannah Wyatt wins a Nikon D700

winner

Lucky Suzannah Wyatt from Bath walked away with a fantastic prize of a Nikon D700 DSLR camera.  The draw was made at the SWPP & BPPA & Nikon Pro Imaging Events in Bristol on Tuesday 18th November 2008.

Hundreds of southwest photographers packed the one-day show in Bristol to see many of the top manufacturers latest equipment and to hear some terrific lectures from some of the leading lecturers in the photographic business.

The next event is being held in Manchester Friday 21st November 2008 – attendees have the chance of winning another Nikon D700

Spicer Hallfield Set To Move Its Manufacturing Operation To Bradford Site

Spicer Hallfield is set to close its Haddenham (Bucks) factory and relocate its  album manufacturing business to a sister plant in Bradford.

MD John Wyatt has spent the last month in talks with staff about the move – which will mean 36 redundancies in Haddenham – but similar job gains in Bradford.

Four managers, wedding album makers and warehouse staff will lose their jobs in the South, but Head Office and support staff will be relocated to new offices in the Haddenham, Aylesbury area.

Said Wyatt: “A combination of events, including the imminent expiry of the Haddenham factory lease and the need to fully capitalise on our recent equipment modernisation at the Yorkshire site, have been key drivers in this decision.
Our Haddenham factory has enjoyed close links with the local community for over forty years and generations of families have worked for the company during that period – but it is vital that we now move on and maintain high cost-efficiency, especially with a recession now upon us.”
He added: “The relocation will be staged over the first half of next year and we are now in talks with staff to see how many might consider a move north with us.
Of course we will do everything in our power to help secure new jobs for those who cannot relocate.”

Spicer Hallfield is a market leader for presentations solutions and has recently invested substantial sums in a revamped website and a successful launch of a new ‘EYE’ brand.
Last month the company also announced the nationwide launch of groundbreaking ‘new-glue’ technology in a range of repositionable self-adhesive albums.

I got asked to go on BBC Radio Manchester the other week to talk about retouching on a morning show… I said no and I don’t think the presenter liked that one bit.

My reasons – It’s not really for me and I don’t want to get into an argument live on radio about the morals of retouching when I basically do what I’m told by my clients. That is what I image she wanted anyway – to pick apart people who do undertake retouching.

What I do find most amusing though is that I know people think I drastically change what my clients look like, when actually, I don’t. My work has been discussed on numerous forums over the past 2 years, the topic generally being “how do I get my images to be like this photographers?” by other people wanting to know how I get the results I do.

Well it’s simple, I’ll tell you – It’s not down to retouching or altering someone’s looks (which apparently I do – according to some other photographers who show their incompetence by presuming this), it’s down to listening to your clients requirements, putting your client at ease while you do what you do best, lighting your subject properly, using the correct poses to flatter that particular clients body shape and finally, one of the most important things – having a pure passion for what you do and not losing sight of that!

So, my conclusion – removing a few spots, fading some lines and correcting badly fitting lingerie doesn’t make a beautiful photograph, what does is making someone so comfortable in front of your camera that you can actually capture their true personality, their beauty and bring out their confidence, creating truly beautiful and emotion provoking images.

Okay, rant over and for some more news… but slightly late!
