The Societies have awarded noted advertising and commercial photographer George Fairbairn FSWPP the Advertising and Commercial Photographer of the Year award for 2014. The Societies is Europe’s largest all-welcome photographic association; their annual competition receives submissions from around the globe.
This year’s competition was one of the strongest and toughest in recent years. Over 12,500 images were entered into the competitions from many of the biggest names in the business and were judged by 35 of the industry’s most well-known and distinguished names.
George Fairbairn’s nomination was for an image taken for London based children’s adventure parks Kidspace. It was the flagship image for their above the line campaigns on both print and online marketing.
George said, “Creating this image was tremendously fulfilling and really nailed the client’s brief. A lot of work went into this image because it’s a composite image consisting of 12 different images shot both in studio and on location. The images were later combined using Adobe Photoshop to create the finished picture.”
The Photographer of the Year Awards 2014 were presented in a range of categories including Advertising, Portraiture, Landscape, Media and Documentary.
On winning the award George stated, “This was truly an unexpected honour. To be selected as the winner amongst entries from some of the world’s best photographers is very humbling. To win for an image that I put so much of my heart and soul into makes it even more special.”
The judges’ comments were “This image has great impact. The subjects are having fun, which depicts the excitement to be had at the venue.”
