The ‘big guns’ of the photo industry are gearing up for the 2019 Photo Trade Show in London.

Canon, Sony, Fujifilm, Manfrotto, Elinchrom, Panasonic Epson and Zeiss are just some of the leading companies lined up to show their products at The Societies’ London Convention and Trade Show.

To date bookings have been flooding in with attendees eager to see what is on offer and to build their ‘wish list’ of gear for their upcoming year.

The Societies’ CEO Phil Jones says ‘This is a great opportunity to be the first to see new products and services on offer from major manufacturers in the photographic industry. The Trade Show also offers attendees a comprehensive schedule of live demonstrations and lectures which makes it a must for those who are serious about their photography’.

Photographers planning to visit the biggest photographic Convention ever held in Europe, can still access the Trade Show element of the London-based event free of charge, if they pre-register before 6 January 2019.

The three-day trade show organised by The Societies, will be held at the Novotel London West, Hammersmith, W6 8DR starting on Thursday 17 January 2019.

Over 100 exhibitors are preparing to show the latest products and services from the photographic industry.

Phil Jones, The Societies’ CEO says, “There is no question that this show is a ‘must-do’ event for all serious photographers”

He added, “Many of the trade have negotiated special deals for the 2019 Trade Show. There will also be a range of free demonstrations from some of the key players within the industry, such as The Flash Centre, Sony, Vitec Imaging Distribution …to name a few.

Our 2019 Convention will simply be the biggest event of its kind ever held in Europe – and our message to photographers is simple ‘Don’t miss it’.”

The Societies’ Monthly Image Competition September 2018 – Results Announced

We are pleased to announce the results of the September 2018 Monthly Image Competition.

971 images were entered in to September’s competition. 38 photographs were awarded a Gold award and 62 images achieved a Highly Commended.

1,017 images were entered in to August’s competition. 34 photographs were awarded a Gold award and 97 images achieved a Highly Commended.

The Society of International Nature and Wildlife Photographers raises £1,673 for the RSPB

RSPB were delighted to receive £1,673 donation from the SINWP Bird Photographer of the Year competition.

The inaugural photographic competition was run by the Society of International Nature and Wildlife Photographers in aid of the RSPB.

Well over 1,000 images were entered in to the competition and from the minimum £1 per image donation, the competition raised £1,673.09.

Colin Jones, The Societies’ Company Director said, “I am thrilled to present the RSPB with this donation. The competition was a huge success and we would like to thank all the entrants for participating and donating towards this fantastic cause.”

Helen Jowett, The RSPB Conwy Nature Reserve Site Manager said “Big THANK YOU to the Society of International Nature and Wildlife Photographers for raising a massive £1673 for the RSPB by running The SINWP Bird Photographer of the Year Competition in aid of the RSPB. It was lovely to meet you at RSPB Conwy today to receive your amazing donation.”

SINWP Bird Photographer of the Year 2018 in aid of RSPB – Winner Announced

The SINWP Bird Photographer of the Year 2018 competition has been running since April this year and was concluded at the end of July.

It was organised in conjunction with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) who benefitted to the tune of £1,673 from the minimum donation of £1 per entry. More than £400 of prizes were provided by sponsors: PermaJet, Aaduki Insurance, Arquadia, Tasco, .photo domains and The Societies.

Simon Wantling from Northamptonshire was awarded the coveted SINWP Bird Photographer of the Year 2018 1st Place by the panel of judges with the below image entitled ‘Little Owl Head on Flight’.

The judging team consisted of the staff at HQ who did the initial selections before handing over to a specialist team consisting of bird and ornithology experts Jon Ashton and Charles Farnell, chaired by Editor, Mike McNamee, himself an international nature salon chair for more than a decade. This trio viewed the images for the first time, independently (and anonymously) each gathering their favourites from the 88 highly commended.

On the winning image Mike McNamee explains, “The focal plane was absolutely nailed, so the eyes and forward facing claws are extremely sharp. The photographer also caught the turbulence of the deceleration perfectly in the feathers. Congratulations to the winner, it’s a fantastically captured image that’s taken the top spot in a very high-standard competition.”

Eric Browett from Hertfordshire, England was awarded 2nd place which Eric tells us ”The picture was taken in September on Heathland near Tunstall, Suffolk. It was taken with a Nikon 7100, using a 80-400 f4.5-5.6 lens, 1/500sec, f5.6, ISO 140.”
