The Speakers bio - Convention Schedule January 2018
Chris Bamber started off photographing cars and babies in the 80s and has enjoyed a varied career.
His work has been as diverse, from documentary photography in the heart of war-torn Sierra Leone and working for a charity in West Africa to high-level advertising shoots for international brands such as Nokia, Coca Cola and Sony across the Far East, Europe and America. The key underlying character of Chris' work has been people and his genuine desire to connect with every subject in a way that ultimately ends in collaboration between the subject and the photographer; the perfect portrait.
Coupled with this artistic tendency is also a driven entrepreneur that has seen Chris build a successful photography businesses several times.
Currently he runs a schools portrait business in the South of England. Using a combination of creativity and persistence his business has become a challenge to the established for the new expectations within the schools photography business. This reputation has also given him the opportunities to support and mentor new photographers.
Chris has a Post Graduate Degree: Masters in Photography which was part of a season working in West Africa for a charity. This experience gave Chris an invaluable experience in understanding his work and what it meant at that time. Looking back it is easy to see how this has shaped his more recent work as it challenges protocol.
Travelling over 4 continents and also building a local portrait photography business has given Chris great insight into both the business and the art of photography.
