Photographing food is now big business, with restaurants requiring perfect images of their food to showcase their own business, it is essential to communicate what the food will taste or smell like through the single visual medium of photography, which is not easy to achieve. It can be a real challenge to create mouth-watering images and a visual food story that really whets the appetite!
In this practical demonstrational Masterclass Robin will explore the art of the rapidly expanding genre of food photography to give a thorough introduction, which any photographer can take away and develop in their own style.
We will explore how to choose the best light for food photography; whether soft or hard, side or back lit, explore composition in a practical session, looking at how to capture perfect images in a variety of styles simply and effectively. Robin will explore the basics of how to style food to look amazing, how to source and use a variety of props to give your images context, the best backgrounds to use, how to add energy and movement to images, and how to focus on and emphasise ingredients to give the viewer the indication of flavour. We will then look at post processing techniques to give the images that extra impact and wow factor. This will give you the confidence to capture perfect images of any food that will really be good enough to eat!
If you are a photographer with a passion for food, or perhaps an aspiring blogger, understanding these techniques can add huge value to your portfolio, whether for adding extra value to wedding clients who invest huge amounts on their wedding food, or just your own photography in trying something different.
