People won’t buy a product unless they can picture it. Look-books are how brands and retailers use photography to literally ‘picture it’ for their customers. However, it isn’t just about the product, nowadays it’s also about selling the aspirational lifestyle associated with that product. Plain white background product photography still has its place, but to really speak to and connect with your customer there needs to be context; in other words, a fully styled outfit and an inspiring location.
Commercial sports photographer Neil Shearer will lead an action packed day giving you the chance to shoot professional athletes in a state-of-the-art Crossfit Box. While the athletes get down and dirty performing a variety of dynamic movements including Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics and plyometric jumps, you will be working up a sweat of your own by learning how to best light and pose the athletes in order to capture images that will engage and excite the customer.
Working on location, participants will get involved with the whole process from creative planning and devising lighting set-ups through to shooting an actual look-book for a real commercial client. There will be time for everyone to get busy developing their own ideas and working it through to the final image with advice and support provided all along the way.
In addition to the hands on practical side of the class, Neil will also cover the methodology behind a commercial shoot including:
* The importance of mood boards in planning
* How to create the right mood and look on set
* How to convey your ideas to your athletes
* How to create a consistent visual narrative
* How to highlight the product and branding
This class is suitable for photographers of all abilities. So whether you have a background in sports photography or just a love of sport, it’s time to get down to the gym and bring along your A-game!
