Photographic Style: Our Photography style aims to show a lot of you and a little bit of us too; its personal, artistic, and above all happy, a document of your day with a sprinkling of "could-you-walk-over-here-in-this-beautiful-patch-of-light-for-a-moment" shots spread throughout the whole day.

How I Started: My passion has always been the visual arts. My very first memory of school – other than the very first day when my super busy Mum (who already had 4 children 5 and under at this stage: there are 6 of us altogether now) dropping me off at the school door and me wandering through the corridors trying to find out which was to be my classroom – was being upset because the teacher made me play with bricks when I wanted to use the grown-up looking easel to paint a picture! On rainy days our Mum would give us kiddies’ watercolours to paint with, so that was my first passion: to be the best artist in the class!

When I was 11, my Dad bought me a Brownie Box camera to go on my first ever school trip to London. Obviously I didn’t know the limitations of low light or how really steady I needed to hold it, but I got a few good shots by chance of animals at the zoo and even got one rather blurred image of my friend Louise on the train home, lit only by the circular overhead tungsten-yellow light.

As soon as I had my 15th birthday, and could legally apply for a Saturday job, I went straight down to the market in Bradford to get a job. I worked from 8.30 am till 6 pm, standing up all day serving fruit and vegetables, with just 30minutes for lunch, often taking a sack full of “bruised” fruit home with me on my shoulder to share with my family. By the time I was 16 I had saved up enough money to buy my first proper camera – a Boots Bierette SLR. My Dad then explained to me the basics of “depth of field” of “f” numbers and exposure speed, so I was off!

I went fruit picking the following summer, at Tiptree in Essex, taking many exciting photos of beautiful Italian girls in their colourful bikinis and Turkish men picking strawberries. I decided to hitch-hike from there to hear a classical concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Being a naïve teenager I thought it would be a good idea to sleep outside after the concert, right next to the building. I carefully placed my black baggy handbag containing my camera and all my precious rolls of films under my head, got into my sleeping bag and promptly fell asleep. When I awoke at 6am, there was of course, no sign of my handbag! I was gutted to lose not only my camera, but those special images that would now be gone forever.

I studied Art at school getting my best grade of all my subjects at A level (A), and went on to study Art and Music, at Padgate College of education in Warrington. I spent all my time sketching, singing and practicing the piano and cello, but my cello teacher left after 6 months and I soon neglected all my written coursework: history of music, psychology and philosophy essays… I left after just one year and one term, and got a job in Thessaloniki, Greece, teaching children English, living with a Greek family and their two daughters.

That was the start of a 9 year stay in Greece, in which time I studied singing at the State Conservatory, painted hundreds, possibly thousands of oil paintings and loads of sketches which I exhibited at 8 one-person shows and numerous group exhibitions, married a Greek and had 3 children.

I returned to the UK in 1980, did a full time degree in Interior Design at Huddersfield Uni (BA hons 2:1), and GNVQ in community media (video & radio) and have since re-married – the Cuban filmmaker Jorge Borges-Ibañez. We set up Reel Life Photos together and have been doing wedding photography and videos ever since. I only found out recently that both my Grandfather on my Dad’s side and my Great Grandfather were also very keen photographers. My Great Grandfather used glass plates, and my Grandfather had his own darkroom where he processed his Black & White wedding photography to fund his personal pictures.

Geographic areas covered: We travel anywhere in the world for nice people's weddings. Last year we covered a wedding in the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjarvi, Sweden, and one in a quaint white chapel in Tenerife, as well as weddings as far apart as Tavistock Town Hall in Dartmoor, Sherbourne Castle in Dorset, the Novatel in Wolverhampton, and Bagden Hall, Woolley Hall, Heath Cottage, Steeton Hall, Tankersley Manor, Nostell Priory in Wakefield, Mirage Hall - an Asian wedding venue in Bradford, Hazlewood Castle near Leeds & York in West Yorkshire, and the Gatehouse (Outward Bound Centre) in Eskdale, Cumbria. This year we have already had 2 weddings at the Inn on the Lake in Cumbria, one in Bagden Hall near Huddersfield, one in Jacob's Creek Retreat in Australia, one in Healds Hall in Yorkshire and one in a Chateau in the Loire valley in France. Our next ones are a Catholic wedding in Southern Ireland and a Hindu wedding in Luton Hoo Hertfordshire, so we certainly get around!

January 15th, 2008 at 2:22 pm Our wedding day….It was the most perfect day that anyone could wish for….the weather was perfect for the time of year and everything went to plan….and the icing on the cake has to be….that the day was captured in all its “perfectness” by two of the most WONDERFUL photographers that there could ever be!!! It was just after lunch when you arrived at our home…and from that moment you made us all feel so comfortable, so at ease…you made each of us feel special and made it so easy to be around the camera….and by the end of the day…our sides were aching with all of the fun and laughter you brought to the day. We hope that you would agree that you came as “the photographers”…and left as friends. We feel so lucky to have found you…the pictures you took will be a permanent memory of our special day and they could not be more perfect. So thank you….both of you….from the bottom of our hearts…. XX

January 24th, 2008 at 11:56 am It IS wonderful that we have so many totally AMAZING pictures to choose from…our wedding pictures are better than I could EVER imagined!!!

I must admit…my first wedding…the pictures were horrid…dull.. lifeless…so disappointing…

So this time…I knew what I wanted and the style I liked etc….and to be honest was a little anxious over it all…

But you guys have truly blown me away….and its WONDERFUL!!! :o)
