For as long as I can remember, I've been in love with capturing those little moments that make us look back and smile. My camera is never far from reach and I'm always on the look out for a chance to click the shutter.
All things Great and Wild
I have always loved animals. As a child, I was always trying to bring home strays and our house was full of rabbits, dogs, cats, hamsters, fish and birds. I trained in zoology and focused my time on understanding animal behaviour. I have soft spot for large predators like wolves, bears and raptors. After working at an educational facility with wolves, I realised communication was the key to conservation and I spent the next ten years working in science communication, inspiring people to engage with science.
I'm now combining these two skills with my passion for wildlife photography to promote conservation by connecting people with controversial animals through the power of images.
I have been lucky enough to enjoy the beauty of this world from many places. Some of my favourite images were taken in Yellowstone National Park, the Scottish Highlands and European cities like Paris and Prague. I'm currently based in Glasgow, Scotland but I'm more than willing to travel for a shoot.
I've had the opportunity to work with people from a variety of backgrounds and ages, resulting in a better understanding of how to make people feel happy and comfortable in front of the lens, coaxing even the most camera-shy out of their shells. Years of working with children has given me the skills to keep them entertained during photo sessions. My training in public engagement means I'm happy working with group sizes from 1 to 101.
People often ask me why Mei? Well, it's part of a name that was given to me by my kong kong (what we affectionately called my grandfather from Singapore) and the full name translates as the Chinese plum blossom. It's celebrated in Chinese culture as a symbol of strength and endurance. I couldn't think of a better way to start this new adventure.
