The technology, which Fujifilm have trade marked as TAP'N'PRINT tm, is the latest feature to be unveiled in Fujifilm Imaging Support Services 'SmartSuite' range of software developments that Fujifilm provides for users of the SmartPix kiosk. TAP'N'PRINT tm allows users to transfer their images from their camera or phone by simply selecting their images and touching their device onto the kiosk.
NFC uses shortwave wireless technology to establish a connection, and then uses Bluetooth to exchange the data. Initially the system will work with all NFC enabled Android mobile phones. Blackberry, Win OS and IOS platforms will be additional target areas for the future.
The implementation of this new NFC technology will be an optional upgrade with an equipment modification for all current SmartPix kiosks to
Maximise from the growing feature rich smart phone market
Improve the ease of printing and connecting with smart phones currently poor reliability and technical issues with many users not understanding the connection process.
Increase print volumes from ALL mobile phones and tablet devices
The new TAP'N'PRINT tm is currently on trial in a number of different photo retail outlets and is expected to be ready for a full launch in the spring.
Other recent developments to Fujifilm's SmartPix kiosk include a feature that enables customers to easily access their social networking accounts directly from a kiosk - this means they no longer need to have storage media with them, they can print directly from Facebook or Flickr.
Peter Wigington, Marketing Manager for Fujifilm Photo Imaging Group said ''TAP'N'PRINT is a really exciting development both for Fujifilm and for the photo retailers who have SmartPix kiosks in their stores. Anything that encourages the public to print their images is a positive thing and, as TAP'N'PRINT is so simple and intuitive to use, I'm sure the public will find it even easier to use the SmartPix kiosk than they did before.''
He continued ''Our software team develops the SmartPix software with the photo consumer in mind. Improvements are always driven by its users. The introduction of the NFC enabled TAP'N'PRINT secures the SmartPix kiosk's position as 'best in class' and that is great news for our photo retailers and for their customers too.''
The SmartPix kiosk acts as the hub between the Fujifilm web server and a variety of output options including a minilab, an inkjet printer, an outlab and an instant printer. SmartPix kiosks can provide a wide range of products so that in addition to standard prints the retailer can offer posters, montages, photobooks, photogifts - the list goes on and on and is being regularly updated.
