The day started with the group arriving at the Hull site and then we proceeded to do a photo shoot with a model Nikki the photographers were encouraged to bring a camera and take advantage of John and the model and benefit from Johns vast experience.
The images were then downloaded and a digital album designed using the images shot, the whole group went to see the images come off the printer at the GF Smith lab and be made into a digital album, the whole process was a really good insight to a shoot, post production and how an album is assembled. The whole group had a tour round the factory and shown lots of processes involving paper including hand made envelopes, packaging designs and shown the vast array of paper GF Smith supply to their customers.
The final process of the album showed it being bound using traditional bookbinding methods, the group were fascinated that such labour intensive skills exist and its not all machine driven Time was given for question and answers to John Denton , and the photographers present thoroughly enjoyed discussions with other photographers.
GF Smith are very proud of their processes and were very happy to open their doors to the photographers, and indeed the success of the day has prompted another date to be entered into the diary for another GF Smith Print Presentation Factory Tour on the 24th October.
