This simple web app allows you to select any DSLR camera and lens combination before it calculates the weight and suggests 3 possible gimbals that will work with your configuration. As well as professional cameras it also works for compact cameras, smartphones and GoPros.
The use of consumer gimbals is on the rise as content moves towards being video focused. By 2019 Video will represent over 80% of all Internet traffic.* 10 billion Snapchat videos and 8 billion Facebook video views are watched each day whilst Youtube sees around 72 Hours of video content uploaded every 60 seconds.**
Oli Girling, Chief Technology Officer at GripUp commented: ''The accessibility of high spec cameras on phones and the affordability of mirrorless cameras means professional looking videos are now much more achievable but the quality is let down by shaky unstable footage. We started GripUp to provide a service that put advice and support above making a sale and this app was designed with that thinking in mind. The consumer gimbal market is rapidly growing but many new users don’t have a filmmaking background. We wanted to make it as simple as possible for people to understand camera stabilisers and find the right one for them, that process starts with their camera setup, in particular the weight.''
The browser based application has a simple interface and takes just 4 clicks. Users begin by selecting either Phone/GoPro, Compact Camera, or DSLR/Mirrorless and are taken through to a page allowing them to search or use the drop down menu to choose their specific device. Total weight is instantly calculated and can be switched between grams, lbs and kilos. As a lot of camera gear is weight dependent this first calculation can be very useful. For those looking for stabilisers, another click returns the 3 best gimbal models and provides options for more information or purchase.
