PTO - New Wedding Fellow To Speak At PTO In Egypt

Pto - New Wedding Fellow To Speak At Pto In Egypt

Photographers who attend the annual Photo Training Overseas event invariably aspire to being as good as the speakers they come along to see. However, what most attendees don’t realise is that all of the speakers were in a similar situation at the commencement of their own careers. PAUL CALLAGHAN fbipp a superb wedding photographer started his working life as an electrician working down the mines in Ireland he was also an enthusiastic rock musician playing the clubs and pubs thumping out the drums for financial gain to supplement his income. However, when Paul was made redundant from his day job as an electrician he realised that his love for music would not pay the mortgage and all the rest of the household bills so he responded to a Government sponsored training course in photography. The rest as the saying goes – is history!

He has recently attained the highest possible accolade for his outstanding creative interpretation of wedding photography by being awarded a Fellowship of the British Institute of Professional Photography – the first ever Southern Irishman to attain this award and the first in the past three years. In fact currently there are only ten active wedding Fellows world-wide. For those who know Paul and have followed his 20-year career they would not be surprised – he already holds a bag full of awards including: three major awards in wedding photography at the 2008 Irish Professional Photographers Association. A regular attendee at PTO for the past five years which he claims has been a massive influence in enriching his career. Three times outright winner in the wedding category at the annual print competition including Photographer of the Year in 2007. Paul is in tremendous demand for his unusual and stunning images. As a judge for the IPPA he loves that role and is always willing to help photographers improve their technique which is the mark of a true 'Fellow'. He generously attributes much of his success to the knowledge he has gained from previous PTOs.

Paul covers sixty weddings a year assisted by his wife Margaret who claims to be his “caddy” – he uses four Nikon cameras on each wedding to enable him to have a wide range of focal length lenses available, he carries a variety of lighting options including reflectors and California Sunbounce. By shooting in RAW he can work in all lighting conditions especially low light which he favours for his particular style of work.

So if you want to share in his successful formula and join the ever-increasing number of satisfied delegates who make this annual pilgrimage to sun drenched shores we suggest you book now as places are limited for this destination.

Dates: 27 January – 3 February 2009.

Other speakers include: Charlie Waite – Landscape. Jim Lowe – Architectural. Kelly Hearn – Wedding. Liesbeth Davidse – Fashion portraits. Jane Conner-Ziser – Digital Art. Lesley Wood – Child portraits and Dave Wall – Photoshop. In addition there will be evening seminars on business and marketing related topics, the popular print critique competition, an organized cultural trip and the glittering Gala Awards Event. The stunning location is Taba Heights in Egypt in a luxurious hotel situated on the Gulf of Aqaba on all-inclusive board for a great value for money delegate rate of £850 which includes, flights, in-flight meals, transfers, seven nights accommodation and all the food and drink you can consume – and oh yes a week of top quality training and networking to boot! Interested? Then call the booking hotline now – 0161 483 3114 or go onto www.ptouk.com for a booking form and further information.
