NIKON’S COOLPIX S220 TOPS EUROPEAN SALES CHARTS

26/02/10

Research shows the Nikon COOLPIX S220 was Europe’s best-selling digital camera in 2009

Nikon is pleased to announce that as of 31 December, the COOLPIX S220 was Europe’s best-selling digital camera in 2009.

According to research by GfK, European consumers purchased more than 740,000 COOLPIX S220 digital cameras in 2009. As part of the popular S-Series range, the COOLPIX S220 was first introduced to the market in February 2009 and offers a range of features including a 3x optical zoom, 10MP and electronic Vibration Reduction (VR) image stabilisation, all packed into a lightweight compact camera.

The research, conducted by German-based research agency GfK, analysed sales of digital cameras across all European markets from January to December 2009 based on the number of units sold by European retailers.

Commenting on the results, Mark Pekelharing, Product Manager for Consumer Products at Nikon, said: “When we launched the COOLPIX S220, we wanted to offer simple yet functional digital camera that was small enough to take anywhere and suitable for everyone. These figures show we have achieved that exact goal. Overall, the good price point of this camera combined with great colours, design and performance has truly appealed to our audience and we look forward to introducing them to our new range of COOLPIX cameras, including its successor model, the COOLPIX S3000.”

About the S3000

As the successor model to the S220, the COOLPIX S3000 makes it even more simple and fun to take pictures anywhere, anytime. The super slim body, with a thickness of just 19mm, packs in 12 megapixels, a wide angle 4x zoom NIKKOR lens – perfect for when you want get all of your friends into one shot or to take a closer look – and a 6.7 cm (2.7 inch) monitor so it’s easy to view all your pictures. And whether you’re on the beach, the slopes or out on the town, the scene auto selector will automatically select the most appropriate one to make it quicker and easier to take beautiful pictures.

Colours: Black, Champagne Silver, Red, Blue, Orange, Magenta and Green. The COOLPIX S3000 will be in shops mid March 2010.

*According to market research by GFK (based on sales between January and December 2009).
