Visitors to this year’s Focus on Imaging have been inspired by the range
of high quality conservation storage and display products showcased on the
TimecareŽ stand, offering a choice of solutions to help them keep their
prized collections safe.
The TimecareŽ range offers conservation-grade protection from the harmful
effects of light, moisture, temperature fluctuations, pests, pollution and
handling, which could cause irreparable damage. A wide variety of products
are available, including ringbinders, archival boxes, mounting boards,
mounting strips, adhesive and even cotton gloves..
New products on display at this year’s Focus on Imaging were:
TimecareŽ Connoisseur Ringbinder Box
Ideal for long term archival storage of photographs, prints, negatives,
transparencies, drawings and other valuable art work, the Connoisseur
Ringbinder Box has a sophisticated appearance that will appeal to the
specialist collector and will not look out of place in the most traditional
library, boardroom or study.
It is a sturdy hand made box covered in duo tone library buckram with gold
blocking, brass corner protectors and rounded spine. The interior lined is
with archival benchcote paper and fitted with a 4 ring ‘0’ mechanism on the
spine which allows the box to lie completely flat when open. It has capacity
for 50 Timecare Album pages. Other sizes and colours can be made to special
order.
Munktell CXD pHoton™ Archival Box and Folder 'P' System
Munktell CXD pHoton™ Archival Box and Folder System has been specifically
designed for the archival storage of photographic prints, negatives and
transparencies. The system is composed of boxes, folders, mounting and
separating sheets.
The CXD Premier Die-cut boxes, available in nine sizes, are designed to
co-ordinate with the pHoton™ system and are made from a laminate of fully
specified archival grey outer and white inner paper combined to produce a
1300 micron finished box. The Timecare Museum Portfolio Box range may also
used with the pHoton™ system and is constructed throughout in acid free
conservation board and covered in high quality, black library buckram.
The pHoton™ die cut folders are also available in nine sizes and are
designed to fit comfortably within the boxes. The folders are made from
pHoton™ 250 gm2, 100% cotton, unbuffered, high purity, silver image safe
paper. The pHoton™ mounting and separator sheets are also available in nine
sizes. The mounting sheets fit neatly inside the die cut folders and are
made from pHoton™ 250 gm2. The separating/ interleaving sheets are made in
the lighter weight pHoton™ 80 gm2.
Heritage Archival pHotokraft (HAPK) Paper
Heritage Archival pHotokraft (HAPK) Paper combines strength and purity
and is designed for use as conservation storage, bookbinding, long life
printing and photocopy paper.
Acid free and lignin free, the range is available in five grammages and
comes in sheets and rolls. The HAPK Paper range offers a choice of five
colours – white, old grey ivory, duke parchment, neutral grey and taupe. All
colours are light fast and bleed proof. A new white unbuffered paper has
recently been introduced to be able to offer paper with no calcium carbonate
which is preferred for long term storage of photographs.
Manufactured to the highest archival quality standards, these papers offer
excellent die cutting and creasing performance. They are produced using 100%
virgin pulp and only pure clean water, without the use of Optimal
Brightening Agents (OBAs). The range has passed the Photographic Activity
Test (PAT) and Silver Tarnish Test.
Heritage Archival pHotokraft (HAPK) Tape and CXD Gummed Tyvek Tape
Available in various sizes, Heritage Archival pHotokraft (HAPK) Tape and CXD
Gummed Tyvek Tape can be used for a range of conservation and framing
projects including hinging artwork to mounts, dust proof sealing and
protecting artwork.
CXD’s HAPK tape has been developed to a high specification using CXD’s HAPK
paper and water based starch adhesive (ph7.5). The 90gsm acid and lignin
free paper makes the tape an industry first with these properties not
achieved by any other archival tape currently on the market. The product has
undergone rigorous testing, including the Photographic Activity Test, which
it passed with flying colours. Combining strength and purity, this buffered
tape is ideal for mounting, bookbinding, lining, sealing and many other
uses.
The CXD’s Gummed Tyvek Tape is also a first of its type offering great
strength whilst being thinner than conventional gummed ‘cloth’ mounting
tapes. This is highly beneficial when used for hinging over-mounts to be
stored in Solander boxes as it creates less fanning to the side and less
wedge-shape in the box. Its synthetic fibre is made from spun bonded
polyolefin which is inert and acid free. The Tyvek Tape is available in
white and black in three widths and three lengths. Amongst its many
applications, it is particularly suitable for the production of custom made
portfolios.
