Epson Traditional Photo Paper

27/09/07

Epson get Nostalgic - Using the latest inkjet media technology, Epson is launching a new paper for professional photographers seeking smooth, glossy photographs with high colour saturation.

Epson Traditional Photo Paper is a professional quality media, designed to work with Epson’s Micro Piezo inkjet printers and its UltraChrome K3 Ink with Vivid Magenta. Photographers who have previously worked in a darkroom will appreciate the nostalgic smooth and glossy finish, reminiscent of the prints created using traditional techniques. However Epson Traditional Photo Paper prints will dry instantly, are acid and lignin-free and will remain flat before, during and after printing, to create professional quality prints. It is a heavyweight paper at 330gsm and is available in A4, A3 , A2 and 24x36in sheets.

Using the latest inkjet coating technology, the new paper incorporates a microporous layer, combined with a unique barrier layer that prevents inks penetrating the fibres of the substrate. This innovative use of inkjet coating technology replicates the actual emulsion coating processes used in the manufacture of darkroom papers. In addition to its protective purpose, the barrier layer also helps to optimise colour saturation and generate the sharpest possible images. An enhanced optical brightener (OBA) within the fibres of the substrate ensures a bright white base that optimises colour brightness and tonal range.

Professional photographer, Hans van Ommeren, says “Epson’s new Traditional Photo Paper is a significant development, achieving a higher D-max than the traditional Baryta papers used during the chemical or analogue process. In combination with Epson UltraChrome K3 ink or the recently launched UltraChrome K3 Inks with Vivid Magenta it offers truly superb print quality.”

Martin Johns, Business Manager Pro-Graphics, Epson UK says, “Epson has been developing its professional paper range for many years, ensuring its printing system; printer, ink and paper; offers photographers the highest quality output, that they are confident to use for their business. The new addition of Traditional Photo Paper is further evidence of how far digital printing has evolved. It has overtaken traditional processes with its easy to use features and increased flexibility.”
