Epson supports "They know who they are...Do you?"

26/04/11

Self-confidence and individuality are the subjects of photographer David Levine’s latest project, sponsored by Epson

19 images of individuals whose very presence exudes self-assurance and confidence make up photographer David Levine’s latest exhibition entitled “They know who they are…Do you?”, showing during weekends throughout the month of May 2011 at The Dining Room gallery, Hove, to coincide with the Artists Open Houses (AOH) May Festival 2011 in Brighton and Hove.

David first embarked on his “They know who they are…Do you?” photography project last summer. David’s photography career has led him to photograph many famous people and models whose faces are often instantly recognisable, and David’s latest photography project contains images of four celebrities including Boy George. However, the other 15 prints contrastingly explore ordinary people who reveal just as much about who they are through a strong sense of individuality and self. On the street, David found subjects who struck him as confident and non-conformant to the ‘here and now.’ These individuals, ranging from students, to shop assistants to the unemployed, were photographed over a 10-month period.

The sitters were invited to come to the photography sessions ‘as they were’ so David could capture their individuality through his shots. No retouching of the photographs took place.

Epson helped to bring the sitters’ personalities to life in prints, supporting the printing of the project on the Epson Stylus Pro 3880. Using this professional A2+ Epson printer together with Epson UltraChrome K3 with Vivid Magenta inks and Epson Traditional Photo paper and Epson Premium Glossy Photo paper, David has been able to print and display high-quality prints in his exhibition.

The question “They know who they are…Do you?” was put to over 400 people who visited the exhibition on its opening weekend during 7th and 8th May, also the launch weekend of David’s gallery The Dining Room at 30 Palmeira Square, Hove, BN3 2JP (trail number BT2), which purposefully coincides with the 30th Year of the Artists Open Houses (AOH) May Festival. The AOH festival is the biggest yet with over 1,000 artists at 250 venues taking part across Brighton and Hove throughout the weekends of May 2011.

Visitors have the chance to explore elements of identity and self during “They know who they are…Do you?” at The Dining Room during the remaining dates of May 14th & 15th, 21st & 22nd and 28th & 29th, or on weekdays by special arrangement.

Convention testimonials This year’s Convention will have a very positive impact on my business and I just know that I will be ready for more next year. I’m on a journey to a very nice place, it will take a while to get there and the hills are very steep. Get there I will and your input will have played a big part in the successes that lie ahead. Photo Quote: These people live again in print as intensely as when their images were captured on old dry plates of sixty years ago... I am walking in their alleys, standing in their rooms and sheds and workshops, looking in and out of their windows. Any they in turn seem to be aware of me. - Ansel Adams

There are 227 days to get ready for the SWPP Convention and Trade Show at The Hilton London Metropole Hotel ...
