Early Consumer Acceptance Signals Solid Profit Opportunity With New Photo Category
Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE:EK) today introduced the new KODAK PYNK
Smart Print System just in time for the busy holiday gifting season.
A completely new concept in premium photo products, PYNK is a new,
patent-pending technology that marries photos to the “photo holder”,
breaking down photo holder design barriers, and making printing and
framing a matter of the consumer pressing a few simple buttons. The
results are stunning - the PYNK System generates professional-looking
framed collages in seconds at any PYNK Ready KODAK Picture Kiosk.
Consumers will no longer have to hassle with cropping, cutting, laying
out and taping their photos - Kodak’s intelligent software does it all
for them, right at the kiosk.
In July, Kodak completed a successful trial of the PYNK Smart
Print System with a leading U.S. drug chain. PYNK System framed collages
were very well received by consumers, with sales of the new PYNK Smart
Print collage frames exceeding industry average turns per frame SKU.
Store associates reported that PYNK Smart Print framed collages were
simple to create and produced excellent output, and so they were an easy
sale. Comments from consumers included: “I love that it was incredibly
simple to use;” “The perfect fit of photos in a physical frame without
any hassle;” “My photos look beautiful in the frame;” and “I like that
it was easy to customise how I wanted the photos to appear.”
“Consistent with our strategy to deliver innovative, easy to execute
high retailer margin solutions that solve real consumer problems, we’ve
thoroughly consumer tested the PYNK Smart Print System from concept to
execution, and consumers love it,” said Nicoletta Zongrone, general
manager of Retail Systems Solutions and vice president, Eastman Kodak
Company. “We are proud to introduce our newest innovation that gives
consumers new opportunities to easily tell their stories while providing
retailers strong new profit opportunities.”
The KODAK PYNK Smart Print System is designed to be easy to use,
requiring only three simple steps. After bringing their favorite digital
pictures or prints into the store, consumers simply select a PYNK Smart
Print Ready product; enter the six-digit PYNK Smart Print product ID
number at a PYNK Ready KODAK Picture Kiosk, and watch as the KODAK PYNK
Smart Print is printed to fit the product. Selected photos are
automatically cropped, sized, arranged and printed on one sheet to fit
the frame or mat. Simply slipping the printed sheet back into the matted
frame finishes the job – all that’s left is to hang the frame.
Consumers can choose from a variety of collage frames, as well as mats
that can be used in many existing frames. The PYNK Smart Print System
makes it easy to fill and refill mattes and collage frames again and
again because the products come with a unique Product ID card. This
means that when it’s convenient, the consumer simply brings the ID card
back to the store and enters the product ID number into the PYNK Ready
KODAK Picture Kiosk. The Kiosk will know what frame or mat the consumer
has at home and will layout and print the pictures to match the layout –
no need to bring the frame or mat back to the store.
