BUILD YOUR FUTURE: LAST CALL FOR ENTRIES FOR THE NIKON PHOTOGRAPHY FOUNDATION COMPETITION

28/02/11

4 weeks to go - closing date: 31st March 2011

February 2011, Nikon UK: Students looking for a career in photography know that their CV needs to stand out from the crowd, so with only four weeks left to go anyone serious about photography should enter the Nikon Foundation photography competition!

The Nikon Foundation is an initiative that aims to support and celebrate the work of young photographers looking to break into the industry. Students studying a photography based course at higher education universities and colleges are invited to enter the competition for the chance to win the ultimate career enhancing prize - a three month paid internship with celebrity and fashion photographer, John Wright.

Not only will the winner get the chance to work with the best but will also get the opportunity to network and learn the art of self-promotion, a useful skill in a tough market. On top of this, the winner will also walk away with Nikon professional equipment worth £4000 to help them on their way.

Jeremy Gilbert, Group Marketing Manager, Nikon UK says: “We recognise that getting a job in photography after education can be tough, which is why we have introduced this money can’t buy opportunity. We hope that the winner will pick up some valuable experience, tips and skills from John to help them progress their career.”

Whilst the Nikon Foundation is ultimately a photography competition, the shortlisted finalists will each be interviewed by the panel of judges, including John, after which one winner will be offered the position with John and his team.

John Wright says: “I am delighted to be part of the Nikon Foundation and am really keen to support emerging photographers. I’m looking forward to seeing the portfolios and interviewing the finalists to find someone with raw talent, who is able to embrace a challenge and appreciates that a career in photography requires commercial awareness and drive and that succeeding is not just about taking pictures.

“I’m hoping to reward someone who shows the imagination, determination and commitment to excellence that’s necessary to fit in with my team, with the opportunity to gain a real hands-on introduction to the realities of succeeding in this industry.”

The competition has four weeks left to run and closes until 31st March 2011 with the winners announced in April. The three month placement with John will commence in June 2011.

Photo Quote: A person is quite different from a tree or rock or stream. By introducing the nude into my pictures, I started perceiving all the things I was photographing in new ways. In contrast or opposition to each other, things became much more significant and interesting, revealing many more qualities than I had ever dreamed of knowing and expressing. By using the nude, I stopped thinking in terms of objects. I was seeing things, instead, as dynamic events, unique in their own beings yet also related and existing together within a universal context of energy and change. - Wynn Bullock
