Chase - Half Term Report
The paper suppliers are a bit like mushrooms. We no sooner pick them off than another one pops up and from afar they like quite alike! Even though we have a backlog of paper and data to give to you, at Photokina this year there were new ranges and new papers from Croppers, Innova, Permajet, Olmec, Hahnemühle, Epson, Ferrania, Kodak, Calumet and Felix Shoeller - and they are only the ones we saw! We have not even started on the gloss, lustre and semi matte ranges although we have started some analysis.

Chase - Impart True Cotton Matt Canvas
Paper Mill Direct recently introduced a true canvas to their media line-up, along with a Giclée Varnish. Under their Impart banner, True Cotton Canvas is a 340gsm, 50 micron, cotton Oxford twill with a slightly cream, matte coating. It does not appear to have any optical brighteners added to its coating and is available in a wide range of widths including 330, 432, 610, 915, and 1067mm. We tested it on an Epson 7600 using the Photo Black ink set.

Within the paper suppliers in the UK, one range stands out as the most comprehensive in terms of the number of surfaces offered. The Permajet livery is easily recognised on the shelves of the better professional suppliers with its silver and yellow, setting off the bright sunflower.

Chase - Olmec Paper
Olmec is a brand name for papers manufactured by ICI. With a long-standing expertise in both coatings and plastics it is not surprising that they developed ink-jet media quite early on in the market cycle.
