Robert’s secret is understanding the rules of classical portraiture and combining these with the spontaneity of contemporary images

Robert Lino first got involved in photography in 1975, during his first year at high school. He went on to assist in a busy studio for 11 years before he started his own business in 1986.

He initially set up as a store front studio providing full photographic services but specialising in fine portraiture and social events. Since then he has changed locations four times, moving from a shopping centre to a home studio, back to a commercial building and now he is home based again. Despite all these changes, he’s maintained a reputation for quality and service.

As a professional, Robert has received many awards and recognitions. Some of these achievements include Master of Photography and Photographic Craftsman Degrees and the Professional Certification from Professional Photographers of America, along with the American Society of Photographers Fellowship – the highest earned award of the profession. His work has also been widely exhibited and used in books and magazines. He is currently working on a portrait posing book and a series of educational DVDs on portrait lighting and posing.

As a photographic instructor he has been a print judge and convention speaker for major professional associations including the PPA, WPPI, PMA, SMFP and, of course, the SWPP. His courses are wide-ranging, covering such subjects as the basic aspects of portraiture, lighting techniques, business, sales, marketing and design. But his professional strength lies in his posing techniques, based on proper posture and body language to create an image that conveys a clear message to the viewer, but looks natural and complimentary to the subject.

Robert’s images display an impeccable attention to detail. Using the same dedication, he can capture the innocence of a child or the sensuality of a model, the elegance of a bride or the emotions of her big day. His secret is understanding the rules of classical portraiture and combining these with the spontaneity of contemporary images. His work is often described as formal, very elegant, natural-looking, romantic and passionate.
