Aiming Higher

Back to the Convention

Margaret is the ‘go to’ expert for any aspirational photographer looking to gain professional qualifications and distinctions.

A committed photographer herself for over 35 years Margaret (FRPS, MFIAP, FIPF, APAGB, SWPP SITTP and SINWP) has been lecturing at photographic societies and groups all over the UK for over a quarter of a century.

Margaret is one of only a hundred people to hold the prestigious – MFIAP (Master Artist of the International Federation of Photographic Art) distinction (and the only photographer in Wales to hold it) She also holds two Fellowships of the Royal Photographic Society and with a panel of Digital Prints gained the FIPF - Fellowship of the Irish Photographic Federation.

Margaret is an assessor for SWPP Distinctions and Mentor for Distinctions applicants.

She is currently the chairman of the DPS (Disabled Photographers Society) which awards Licentiate, Associate and Fellowships in a wide range of subjects.

She says: “I have my own Distinctions Group advising members on applying for Distinctions.

I served as Panel Member, Chairman and Team Leader for a total of twenty years on the Licentiate Panel of the RPS and during that time I was fortunate enough to be able to help, on a one-to- one basis, over a thousand photographers gain Distinctions.”

At The 2011 Convention Margaret will be advising on “Laying out a panel” or “Sequencing projected images” to show the images off to their best advantage.

She will talk about standards required for gaining qualifications and the images assessment protocol – ‘whether or not in my opinion they reach the standard required for the distinction they are applying for.’

Margaret will demonstrate with both successful and failed panels of work and she plans ‘one to one’ assessments in private for Convention delegates who bring along a set of images for advice.
