Join John on Jersey for a two day photographic event that will stretch
your creative muscles in a range of directions and will change the way
you view light and approach weddings and portraiture. You will see at
close quarters how he works with his regular model Claire and you'll
have chance to shoot images for your own portfolio and reference.
Shooting Brides – 17th March 9.30 – 5.30
The first day will see you exploring the world of weddings as John
shoots them. He specialises in getting the best from his brides. For him
the wedding day is all about the bride and he will show you
How he sells weddings
How he markets his wedding business
How he briefs his clients before the day
How he structures his wedding day
How he uses natural light, flash and video lights on the day
How he selects locations to create fashion styled bridal portraits
How he poses his bride and grooms
How he uses one wedding to sell the next
How he retouches his bridal images quickly to maximise profit
As well as exploring the hotel John will take you out onto the streets
to identify locations. He will have his trusty Elinchrom Quadras with
him and all will be able to use them to take pictures so bring your
cameras along for a very practical session.
Funky Portraits – 18th March 9.30 – 5.30
Put a fashion edge to your portraiture and come along for a day of using
all manner of lighting to pose and style his portraits. His style of
shooting lends itself to exploring different locations and this session
will take you out along the St Helier seafront and town to create
stylish imagery.
John will use a range of large and small flashes, natural light and video lighting. Bring your cameras and Flashes too as you will have chance to shoot images alongside him and receive direct critique.
You will see how John poses his subjects and directs them to get best
results.
At the end of the session John will demonstrate how he uses Lightroom,
Photoshop and filters from OnOne and Nik to produce his results.
Bonus session
If you book both sessions then join John and Claire between 7pm and 9pm
on Saturday night for a photo walk around the St Helier Harbour using
flash and ambient light to create fashion styled images in the darkness.
This is free for all attending both Saturday and Sunday sessions,
although you may have to buy them a beer afterwards!
