Venue special features: Hodsock Priory is our family home (and has been since 1765). We’ve spent the past year lovingly renovating the house and we now have a sensational new entertaining space available to hire for private events.
Whether it’s an intimate dinner for 6, a wedding for 120 or a great big bash for 500, we welcome you. Our background in hospitality, entertainment, food and wine means we are well placed to host Weddings, Family Gatherings, Anniversaries, Birthday Parties, Corporate Functions and Special Events.
From the minute you sweep through the archway of the Tudor Gatehouse, you will have this peaceful, secluded corner of England to yourselves. You are free to entertain your guests in an informal environment where everyone will relax. Children can run around. The party can spill outside. We invite you to bring Hodsock to life.
George and Katharine Buchanan
Venue History: 2006 - Present
Since January 2006, George & Katharine Buchanan have taken over the management of Hodsock Priory from Sir Andrew and Lady Buchanan. They want to share their family home and the famous gardens and look forward to welcoming you. Whether you come to Hodsock for the opening of the gardens at Snowdrop time in February or for a viewing for your wedding, you will love the friendly feel of the place.
Work on the new Pavilion finished in August 2007. The Pavilion seats 120 for a sit down dinner or more for a drinks reception or fork buffet.
George & Katharine live in the house so you get a special kind of personal service at Hodsock. They have built the Hodsock Pavilion, totally renovated the house and they run the Weddings and Events with the help of Ken and Lynda Pepper, the House Managers. Their redevelopment plans continue with the Opening in 2010 of the Hodsock Courtyard Conference & Business Centre.
Other information: The Priory epitomises country house style, with fine furnishings and a distinct elegance. The ancient trees in the park provide the perfect back drop to the long drive which sweeps under the archway of the Tudor Gatehouse, bringing you to the secluded setting of Hodsock.
You will have exclusive use of The Priory, including: The Hall, The Library, The Ante Room, The Bar and The Pavilion - all licensed for civil ceremonies and partnerships with views of the beautiful gardens.
We are excited to announce that during 2007 we have renovated the house using traditional, period and heritage wall papers, paints, fixtures and fittings - the rooms reflect as closely as possible the original 1829 styles. Hodsock has a new, fresh look - further emphasising our commitment to quality and style.
Wedding Trivia: MONTH TO MARRY According to an old legend, the month in which you marry may have some bearing on the fate of the marriage: Married when the year is new, he'll be loving, kind and true; When February birds do mate, you wed nor dread your fate; If you wed when March winds blow, joy and sorrow both you'll know; Marry in April when you can, joy for Maiden and for Man; Marry in the month of May, and you'll surely rue the day; Marry when June roses grow, over land and sea you will go; Those who in July do wed, must labour for their daily bred; Whoever wed in August be, many a change is sure to see; Marry in September's shrine, your living will be rich and fine; If in October you do marry, love will come but riches tarry; If you wed in bleak November, only joys will come, remember; When December snows fall fast, marry and true love will last".
