Venue special features: Glamis Castle has a very striking range of turrets and towers and is often likened to a romantic fairy tale castle. The approach to the castle is through the Queen Mother Memorial Gates and down a majestic tree-lined mile long avenue.
Glamis Castle is ideally suited to wedding celebrations for up to 40 people. The 16th Century Chambers provide the perfect setting for an intimate wedding ceremony followed by drinks served in the stunning 17th Century Drawing Room, with its own ornate fireplace and plaster ceiling from that period. The wedding meal would be served in wood paneled Victorian Dining Room, with guests seated round the grand Strathmore Dining table. In this room guests would be surrounded by family portraits and the warmth of the log burning fire.
Venue History: Glamis Castle was the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and the birthplace of HRH The Princess Margaret. It was granted to Sir John Lyon in 1372. He married the daughter of King Robert II, and the castle has been visited by many members of the Scottish and British Royal families since then. The castle is the residence of Michael, 18th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne.
Other information: A number of the rooms inside the castle are only accessible via steps and staircases. There is no lift access inside the castle. Therefore a number of the rooms inside are unsuitable for wheelchair users.
Wedding Trivia: In Japan, white was always the color of choice for bridal ensembles - long before Queen Victoria popularized it in the Western world.
