Nikon today announces the FX-format prime lens that street photography enthusiasts have been waiting for—the AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f1.8G.

With a fast maximum aperture and optics designed for high-megapixel D-SLRs

Nikon's new 35mm lens captures compelling images with amazing clarity and contrast. Ideal for street photography as well as environmental portraiture, landscapes, and city views, this medium wide-angle lens allows a timeless approach to framing subjects and can capture background context without sacrificing subject intimacy. Lighter, more compact, and more affordable than its professional counterpart, the NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G is set to become a fast favourite amongst keen photographers who want to work with a classic 35 mm focal length.

Hiro Sebata, Product Manager for Lenses, Accessories & Software, Nikon UK,
says ''The 35mm focal length is popular with street, documentary and reportage photographers of all levels. Whilst the 35mm f/1.4 lens is favored by professionals, enthusiast photographers will enjoy the new 35mm 1.8G lens which has been optimised for modern high-definition D-SLRs and features an improved optical design and faster f/1.8 aperture - and all at an affordable price.''

Classic aesthetic, classic focal length
The new NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8 beautifully captures any setting or subject, from busy streets to location-based portraits; from landscapes by day to cityscapes by night. Valued for the way it frames images, the 35 mm focal length has always been a staple of photography. For photographers who want to capture the energy and rhythm of the streets, the moderately wide field of view creates an emotionally engaging perspective that puts the viewer right in the heart of the action. And portrait photographers who want to convey a relationship between the subject and their surroundings can shoot from a close distance and still include some contextual background. Fast, versatile, and remarkably portable, the superior optical design and lightweight build of this new NIKKOR ensure you won't want to leave home without it.

Fast & fine
With a fast f/1.8 aperture, this lens offers exceptional control over depth of field for distinctive subject/background separation. As to be expected with a fast NIKKOR prime lens, special attention has been paid to its rendering capabilities Bokeh is circular and beautifully smooth, thanks to the rounded aperture and the fine gradation of image blur from the focus point to the background. The advantages of a large maximum aperture also mean the flexibility to shoot with faster shutter speeds, obtain clear results in low light, and enjoy a brighter viewfinder image for more precise compositions.

Renowned NIKKOR quality
Crafted to accommodate today's high-resolution sensors, the new NIKKOR 35mm
f/1.8 yields amazing clarity and contrast throughout the frame. Because of an optical design that borrows from its sister lens the professional NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4, point light sources are reproduced with minimal sagittal coma flare, a factor that enables stunning nightscapes. The optical construction consists of 11 elements in 8 groups, and employs one asperical lens element and one ED glass element in order to minimise chromatic aberrations and ensure sharp, contrast-rich results. Autofocus is smooth, quiet, and swift, thanks to Nikon's SWM Silent Wave Motor, and the minimum focus distance is
0.25 cm.

Free to roam
Lightweight, compact, and affordable, the NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8 deserves a place in every discerning photographer's bag. With less weight to carry and more speed to shoot with, this portable lens can be the difference between calling it a day and exploring a few more streets where anything could happen. Optimised for Nikon FX-format cameras, the NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8 is also a great option for Nikon DX-format photographers seeking a fast lens for capturing classic images with amazing colour and contrast.

The AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G comes with the CL-0915 Flexible Lens Pouch and the HB-70 Lens Hood.
