Focus On ImagingThe Societies at Focus on Imaging 2010 - Focus boost for The Societies

The Societies are celebrating record recruitment numbers following the organisation’s most successful Focus event in a decade.

Juliet Jones, The Societies’ MD said: “It’s been a full-on, flat-out, bumper show for us with hundreds of new and aspirational photographers signing up for membership of one or more of our eight photo-societies.
We had typically buoyant interest in the SWPP but also in our complement of additional societies covering the burgeoning wildlife, fashion and event photography sectors.”

She added: “We had top class speakers and demonstrators on hand and the stand was a constant hive of activity across the four day event. At one point we had hardly enough staff to cope with demand.”

Quick Tips - Hands hands and more hands

The ‘Mentor me team give advice on some of the finer points which appear more often than not on mentoring submissions. Here we look at hand posing and positioning.

The placement of subject’s hands can either emphasise or detract from facial expressions and the overall mood of the image.

Hands naturally express feelings and mood and in an important way help to tell the story of the image. Hands can convey emotion by subtly stoking the face of a loved one to engender a feeling of love and tenderness or by conveying love by say a young child holding a parents finger.
