Charlie Waite - Speakers’ Corner

We don’t believe there’s ever been a speaker line-up quite like this before at any photo convention - anywhere.

At the pioneering seven day-long 2010 gathering our broad church of professional and aspirational photographer visitors will have a truly enormous choice of seminars.

Of course it would be impossible to produce personal profiles for every single speaker, so we’ve drawn a dozen of these key names out of the hat to give you an exclusive ‘cross-section’ profile snapshot.

My father presented me with his Rolleicord and Rolleiflex and gave me my first lessons with a camera before I went to Salisbury College for a 12 month intensive course on photography.

Concept, Capture & Create (Superclass)

Friday 15 Jan 14:00 - 18:00

This superclass is a guided, hands on workshop. Damian will take you by the hand and lead you through the odyssey that is creating top quality photography!

We will begin our journey at the key stage most other omit, the concept, together with your guide you’ll receive the location and Damian will explain what he will be looking for in the surroundings and why the elements chosen leaned themselves to creative photography and what narrative they can drive into the image.

With the concept clear the group will move on to posing and lighting the image and dressing the set if necessary. Along the way we’ll examine lens selection, light modifier choices and the reason for their selection and why the subject has been lit in the manor finally decided upon.

The shoot will be conducted tethered, via a Mac, into Apples Aperture. This will allow us to demonstrate how Damian uses the software on a shoot. Further more each delegate will get the opportunity to follow Damian’s lead and using the intuitive controls in Aperture process their captured RAW files to finality.

Last but by no means least to complete to creative process our little RAW gems will be prepared for print and courtesy of Fuji and HP committed to print. Every delegate will walk away from this seminar not only with valuable new photography knowledge but a finished print that embodies the odyssey just travelled.
Subject & narrative driven lighting (Superclass)

Saturday 16 Jan 09:00 - 13:00

How to shoot images like the BIG Dog!

The best way to learn is to do! That’s why this Super class will be given as a “Down & Dirty” hands on workshop.

Guided by The BIG Dog we will look at how lighting can be our best friend as well as a slave to work for us and do our bidding. How the appropriate quality of light can greatly enhance the narrative of an image and subliminally sell the shot to those viewing it.

Together we’ll explore various lighting modifiers and see their individual effect. Assessing and cataloguing them in our mental “data banks” for future use and reference, tools to be “Whipped out” on YOUR future shoots to create the effect that YOUR creative concept desires.

Damian will divulge the VERY simple, but secret, bullet point “Recipe” list he uses himself when “Cooking up” fresh “Lighting extravaganza”. Simple, fool proof but massively effective!

This workshop will take you on a “Whistle stop” guided tour of the vicious urban jungle that is quality photographic lighting practice. You’ll leave the day, thanking your expert guide, because you too will now realise that in essence good lighting practice is EASY and you’ll own the “Street smarts” to not only survive but prosper in the “Wild world” of lighting.

Don't miss out on the chance to start off the year with inspiration from some of the world's best photographers
