We are licensed for both civil and religious ceremonies which can be hosted in one of our various lounges or under the 250 year old oak tree in the garden.

Venue History: Confident but understated mansion house designed by John Adam for the second Earl of Hopetoun, curator of the extensive local estates of his insane cousin, the Earl of Annandale. It was begun in 1762 and completed by 1767. The house is built of local whin rubble with red sandstone dressings. Tall three-storey main block of five bays, the windows grouped 2/1/2, those of the first floor taller to denote a piano nobile, further emphasised by a band course. Tall chimneys at the ends of the platform of the piended bellcast roof. Simple detail, with moulded architraves at the openings. Broad doorpiece with attached Roman Doric columns and ball finials, containing an architrave with glazed concave-splayed ingoes. The upper half of the door itself is glazed with square panes, a Georgian precedent for more recent neo-Georgian joinery derided by cognoscenti.
This centre block is linked by concave quadrants to low two-storey pavilions whose five-bay long sides face the court. In each gable towards the street, a pair of basket-arched coachhouse entrances (now blocked) below the small horizontal first-floor windows. The garden front has been badly overlaid by late c 20 extensions built for the present hotel use. At each end, a full- height broad bow. The piano nobile is again distinguished by tall windows and a bandcourse. Inside, a tight geometric oval stair.
