My photographic style: I love working with people and animals. I like to make my subjects feel relaxed and part of the process. At weddings I try to be unobtrusive and not to interfere too much with the natural flow of the occasion. I have worked with animals as a veterinary surgeon for many years.
My greatest strengths: I like to feel that I get on well with people. I like to be creative and work out of the box. So many images are so similar these days and I try to produce something different if I can.
I have been in photography: I have been taking photographs since I was in my early teens but dropped it when I was at vet college due to the amount of studying that I had to do. It was rekindled in 200 when I took my sons F80 to Alaska on a charity trek for SENSE. I was delighted with the images I came back with.
How I got started in photography: An old gentleman who lived near me when I was a boy taught me how to use a camera and develop my own pictures. My first camera was a Practika Nova1 which I still have.
My photographic skills: Spotting something different. Thinking out of the box.
My personality: Easy going. Adventurous. Good people skills. Good with animals.
Geographic areas I cover: Scotland mostly but anywhere considered. National. International would be a challenge.
Venues I frequently attend: Galloway is a wonderful part of Scotland for weddings. We have some delightful small churches. My local vicar takes a lot of beating when it comes to taking a church service.
I found inspiration from: Jo Buissink has always inspired me.
Success in photography: Not a lot because I have not entered any. Maybe sometime.
Photographic training: No. Just self taught and experimentation.
My interests outside photography: I love walking in the Scottish mountains. I love my wife, my children, my dogs and my parrot "George" I have played cricket to a fairly high standard, squash and football. Wildlife.
Major events: Travelling and raising money for charity. Visiting Alaska with SENSE, Peru and Africa with ACTION AID and VETAID.
I would like to spend time watching Lions, Elephants and whales.
Why I like the SWPP: So far I have enjoyed the conventions a great deal. A wealth of experience and knowledge to be tapped. Just wish I had more time to do that.
Tagline: Thinking of one!!
Future plans: As I have only been seriously pro photo for a short time, I am intent on building up a unique style that I hope people will like. I would like to produce a few books.
