"I just don't believe in that."
Those were the words of the person I love on our first date, when the subject of marriage came up. It was alright with me. I'd never really imagined myself getting married either.
After a few years together, though, I became seriously ill. It was a difficult and uncertain period, and there were times when I didn't know if I would survive. But I did. We came through it together, and our love grew stronger because of everything we had faced.
Then, one evening at a restaurant in Egypt, something unexpected happened.
The waiters began circling our table like flies. I tried to wave them away, while my partner blinked and nodded his head. I wondered if he had something in his eye. A waiter placed a bottle of champagne and two glasses on our table, and I was convinced they had simply brought them to the wrong table.
Then my partner stood up, walked around the table and got down on one knee.
"Has he lost something?" I thought, as I started looking around the floor.
Then he took out a ring and asked me to marry him.
At first, I didn't quite understand what was happening. The whole restaurant seemed to hold its breath. And then, finally, through tears, I said yes.
There was applause, champagne and happy shouting all around us.
I was surprised by the joy I felt in making that commitment. My partner and I had both had to go beyond ourselves to make it happen, and I think there's something especially beautiful about that.
I believe in love. I believe in the courage it takes to choose one another, in the stories that bring two people together and in the moments that become part of who we are.
Being able to document your love story lights me up. Whether I'm photographing the emotion and connection of a wedding day or helping a woman feel confident, beautiful and empowered during a boudoir session, I want you to feel safe, comfortable and completely yourself in front of my camera.
