I regularly visit galleries from which I never fail to gain a great feeling of contentment. I always endeavour to give my clients that same contented feeling when they receive my photographs. When shooting I always try to make my clients photographic experience a fun and happy occasion as I feel that this will reflect in their photographs. My greatest strengths: From many years behind the camera I feel I have a good awareness of the environment around me, at many an occasion I taken a photograph spontaneously and feel that I have technical expertise to respond to the event, and these have in the past been my favourite photographs. I have a great appreciation of Adobe Photoshop but wise enough by using it that you can make a good photograph great but you cannot make a bad photograph good. My personality is my greatest strength I have what my wife says as an “over eager puppy friendliness” in the attempt to make my clients happy. Weaknesses are that there is not enough time to take great as much as I would like. I have been in photography: I have been a photographer for around 35 years but a serious photographer for 5 years. From my first SLR at 16 years old to today where I have started my own business, indeed I have taken a career change to pursue my ambition to be a full time photographer and have now a number of regular customers. How I got started in photography: I have always had knowledge of cameras since I was a young child where I was allowed to play with my fathers 1950's Webley camera and range finder. In my teen I learnt how to develop film and with my SLR the appreciation of the technical aspects of photography. Five years ago I bought my first serious digital camera (Nikon D80) and was asked to piggy back a photographer friend of mine at a couple of weddings. I then was asked to undertake my first solo photo shoot of a wedding and realised I thoroughly enjoyed experience particularly handing over the completed album. My photographic skills: Apart from my eye for a good photograph and the technical abilities to achieve this, my main asset my is my personality , from my experience of being a teacher for over 20 years I would consider myself a people person. I have always tried to be a good listener and developed through my photographer, what I use as a mantra of being personal, professional and discreet. Technically I have been a teacher of engineering specialising in the use of computer aided engineering and I use this as a foundation for a more creative accomplishment. My personality: I have been told that I am very approachable with a good sense of humour and the ability to make people relaxed, this can be seen in my ability to make young children enjoy a photo shoot (and they don't lie). My wife who is my shoot arranger is also a great personality and enhances the photographic experience for all my clients through relaxing them. Another asset is that nearly nothing stops both of us completing our mission, once I undertook a wedding shoot with my foot broken in two places and recently my with arranged a day release from hospital to undertake another wedding. Geographic areas I cover: My geographic area is mainly in south west Wales, but I've undertaken a wedding in Epsom, Surrey and undertook a charity fundraising shoot in aid of Orchid in Bristol. Venues I frequently attend: Where I live I am blessed with an amazing array of photographic opportunities, from the Gower peninsular on my doorstep to having a number of mediaeval castles within a short distance there are a number of stunning backdrops for wedding photo shoots. I found inspiration from: Everything Success in photography: I have not really entered any formal competitions as such, but I may undertake this in future as it is wise to receive feedback for my endeavours. My main successes have been the feedback from my customers, some of which have been reduced to tears of joy when viewing their preview DVD, and to the financial appreciation in buying extra photos for their album and for relatives to order individual photos. Photographic training: I have attended numerous courses from local college courses to some training at Nikon headquarters and a number of courses run by SWPP including a convention which I would highly recommend. My interests outside photography: From a background in engineering I always strive to keep abreast on current technologies, I am currently training myself on my 5th CAD Program, which I enjoy as I like the logic of engineering and it is something I base my creative aspirations on. Other interests include walking my dog on the Millennium coastal path in Llanelli that dog has so much energy it inspires me, yet his placid and friendly nature is a perfect reflection of our business and is the promotional figurehead of the company Major events: Obviously getting married has to be the most important event in my life as well as seeing my parents' joy when I received my first teaching job. Otherwise it would be watching my beloved Scarlets beating New Zealand and Australia and receiving my degree. On the photographic side it must be seeing the shear joy on my clients faces when they receive their photos Why I like the SWPP: I have been a member of SWPP for around 4 Years and I feel it gives a great amount of value for your membership fee. I have enjoyed training at the convention and local courses and the Imagemaker magazine is very informative. I now feel that I must use the mentoring and award scheme to establish my credentials and receive feedback in order to improve.
