Hi, I'm David 👋, a photographer based in Waterloovile, Hampshire, England, available for photography services across the surrounding areas.
I have loved taking photographs for as long as I can remember. When I was 18, I was given a Praktika SLR camera and a Sigma zoom lens, which really ignited my passion for photography. I loved learning to shoot manually, controlling all the settings myself, then taking rolls of 35mm film to Boots for developing and eagerly waiting to see the results.
After choosing a different career path, I eventually returned to photography through a college course, where I learned how to develop black and white film and explored how traditional photographic techniques translate into the digital world.
I set up a home studio and began photographing portraits. Once I discovered how much I enjoyed working with people, I was encouraged to start photographing weddings. Weddings were something I had always avoided because the responsibility of capturing someone's big day seemed far too stressful. It turns out that responsibility is exactly what I love about it, and my hobby eventually became my career!
Weddings are great fun to be part of. I love getting to know couples and becoming friends, meeting their families and guests, and immersing myself in the day to capture their love and story through photographs.
I currently use the Canon camera system, including an EOS 5D Mark IV DSLR and an EOS R6 Mark II mirrorless camera, alongside a range of professional lenses. At weddings, I always carry a third camera body as a backup too, just in case.
When I'm not photographing weddings and portraits, I enjoy spending time with my family and our slightly mad chocolate Labrador. My wife and I love travelling and exploring new places, which gives me plenty of opportunities to enjoy street photography and look for interesting candid moments a little like weddings!
I'm also partial to too much coffee, red wine, cheese and particularly hot curries. Away from photography, I undertake some freelance work for charities involved in adult social care and learning disability, supporting local carers.
I am a member of several photography trade organisations and groups, including the Society of Wedding & Portrait Photographers and The Royal Photographic Society.
