John is a photographer specialising in live music and portrait photography, with a
particular focus on jazz. He lives in Durham in the North East of England but has
worked extensively in London over the last few years. He has also shot at a number of iconic jazz venues in New York.
He aims with his photography to convey the passion and feeling behind the music rather
than just a straight capture of the event or gig. Many of his images are taken in small
clubs, aiming to convey the intimacy and connection with the audience that comes with that environment.
John won the Live Music category in the inaugural Abbey Road Music Photography Awards in 2022 for his image of David Mrakpor at the 606 Club, entitled 'Waiting for the Head'.
He has created cover photographs for a number of albums and his work has been exhibited in a number of music and arts venues in London and South East England.
Through his experience shooting in jazz clubs and bars, John is particularly experienced
at photography in low light situations. He is also an accomplished portrait photographer, working both in studios and on location.
