Hi, I'm Angi 👋, a photographer based in North Shields, Tyne & Wear, England, available for photography services across the surrounding areas.
Fine Art, Macro & Creative Nature Photographer
I am an ex-rheumatology specialist nurse turned photographer, with a passion for close-up and macro photography, nature, still life, creative portraiture, landscapes and gig photography. I have enjoyed photography for over 19 years, exploring a wide range of genres and continually learning and developing my creative approach.
My photography journey began with a focus on amphibians and reptiles, another long-standing passion of mine. In recent years, I have become increasingly drawn to floral, fungi and other close-up nature photography, as well as still life. I particularly enjoy focus stacking macro subjects such as insects, fungi and flowers, alongside creative projects exploring submerged flowers, folklore and the abstract.
My current work is increasingly focused on creativity and abstraction, including ICM, multiple exposures and incorporating my own artwork into my photography. I have always been inspired by folklore, fantasy, paganism and fairy tales, and these influences are particularly evident in my creative portraiture. I love creating images that feel ethereal, magical or as though they belong in a fairy tale book.
Although I no longer have one specific niche, my speciality is close-up photography, both in the studio and in nature. Over the years, I have taken everything I have learned from different genres and applied it to my favourite areas of photography. I am also confident and experienced in gig, portrait and landscape photography, although I now undertake these less frequently.
Much of my photography is created from home using a small studio setup, allowing me to continue creating beautiful images while working within my current limitations. My work is primarily focused on personal projects and competition entries, although I occasionally undertake commissions. If you have a project in mind, please get in touch to discuss your requirements, as I create individual packages based on the nature of each commission.
I have also previously delivered workshops and camera club talks and may be able to offer one-to-one tuition, either in person or online, focusing on close-up photography or editing. I have recently created recorded online presentations covering fungi and floral photography, allowing photographers to learn at their own pace.
Alongside photography, I enjoy creating art, particularly watercolour and mixed-media work, and I am continuing to explore new creative projects and develop content for my YouTube channel.
My photography has received numerous awards and accolades, including winning the Botanical and Fungi Photographer of the Year 2025 with the SWPP, Overall Photographer of the Year 2024 with the Guild of Photographers, and the UK round of the EISA Animal Kingdom portfolio competition. I have also been named Photographer of the Year by the National Photographic Society for three years and have achieved numerous category wins and high placements in international competitions.
Other achievements include first-place awards in multiple categories at the International Garden Photographer of the Year, winning Plant and Fungi Photographer of the Year with the SWPP, first and second place in Camera Jabber Photographer of the Year, and an Associateship with the SWPP in Nature Photography.
My work has been featured in numerous publications, books, album and book covers, newspapers and websites, including BBC News, the Evening Chronicle and Amateur Photographer. I was also Editor of Reptile Care magazine around 2009/10, responsible for writing reviews and articles, magazine layout and the day-to-day running of the publication for two years.
I also create and sell photographic textures and overlays, with helpful resources available through my website and blog.
