ANSI

SWPP Photographic Glossary

A speed rating system for photographic films and materials developed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). This system was used to indicate the light sensitivity of film, helping photographers select appropriate exposure settings for different lighting conditions. ANSI ratings provided a standardized reference similar to ASA, allowing consistent results across cameras and film types. While largely replaced by the ISO system, understanding ANSI ratings is useful for historical film documentation and comparison of older photographic materials.
