Front Projection

SWPP Photographic Glossary

Front projection is a photographic and cinematographic technique that allows a subject in a studio to be combined with a previously photographed background. The background image is projected from the camera's position onto a special reflective screen behind the subject.

This method ensures that the projected background aligns perfectly with the camera perspective, creating a seamless integration of studio subjects and distant scenes. Front projection is widely used in film, advertising, and visual effects photography to produce realistic composite images while maintaining sharpness and correct lighting.
