Synthetic Profile

SWPP Photographic Glossary

A synthetic profile is an ICC (International Color Consortium) profile created in software such as Photoshop, with defined gamma, white point, and primary colour values. It is specifically designed to correct images with severe exposure or colour issues, ensuring consistent and accurate reproduction across different devices and printing processes.

Photographers and digital imaging professionals use synthetic profiles to salvage challenging images, standardise workflow, and maintain colour fidelity. By applying a synthetic profile, it’s possible to achieve balanced tones and improved image quality, even when the original capture suffers from extreme lighting conditions or incorrect camera settings.
