I like portrait sessions to be natural and relaxed and to just let people be themselves; it's my job to catch the special moments as they happen, not to try and create them artificially. My greatest strengths: I love working with people; getting to know them, building trust and allowing them to relax and enjoy the occasion. Attention to detail is important to me in all aspects of my photography; that's what makes it challenging, fun and what creates the best images I have been in photography: Macdonald Images was set up in 2010 but I have been a keen photographer for more years than I care to admit ! How I got started in photography: My first recollection of having "the bug" was during a school trip to Switzerland in the early 1970's. It was my first trip overseas and many of my friends had never been overseas either, so I wanted to have loads of photographs to show them when I got home. Been attached to a camera in one form or another ever since. The business was set up following redundancy in late 2009; that was my 'now or never' moment. My photographic skills: Ability to bond with people, to observe what is going on around me and to use both of these skills to capture the atmosphere of whatever occasion I am photographing. My personality: Quiet, calming, relaxed. I'm always contented when I have my camera in my hand, whatever the occasions Geographic areas I cover: I am primarily based in Norwich, so Norwich and Norfolk are my key areas, but anywhere in East Anglia is doable. Further afield would be considered with notice. I also have a base in Scotland (Livingston, near Edinburgh) so also do work in the Edinburgh and Lothians area too My interests outside photography: I enjoy reading non-fiction; recent books have tended to have a travel or historical theme (fascinated by Chinese history at the moment). I am also interested in language and have been reading some books with a linguistic theme. I enjoy going to the theatre and particularly enjoy a night at the opera - but musical tastes are wide and varied. I like getting outdoors and having a nice long walk in the countryside or along the beautiful Norfolk coast - with my camera in hand of course Why I like the SWPP: I am enjoying being a part of the SWPP community; I have friends who are professional photographers and they pointed me in this direction. I am hoping to learn lots from using the Forums, and am also hoping that the regular competitions will help push me forward in my photographic skills Tagline: "Captured in a moment, treasured forever" Future plans: I am currently building some experience with Event photography and have recently covered some equestrian events; I hope to do more of that. I have also been offered a position as assistant / second shooter with a local photographer (John Harris Photography, Norwich) and am looking forward to building experience in the world of wedding photography. John has recently become an Associate member of SWPP and I know I will learn a great deal working alongside him.
