Puppet Warp

Regardless of which version of Photoshop you employ, a photographer can always make a friend of their sitter by carving a few pounds off them. Instances of sitters asking the photographer to 'make them look a little fatter' are rare to non-existent and so despite the objections of the 'no size zero models' brigade, most people prefer themselves a little on the slimmer side.

The Warp Tool and Liquify Tool have been the mainstays for this slimming activity but these have been joined by Puppet Warp. Although Puppet Warp can do magical stuff such as moving hands behind bodies, its main benefits lie in simpler, more routine tasks such as body sculpting and subtle changes to improve posture and posing.

Drag and Drop Files

This feature has received scant attention from the pundits but is a real bonus for the album designer as it brings InDesign-style drag and drop in to Photoshop. With a Photoshop file open, other compatible files may be dragged from the Bridge Content panel (or Explorer) and dropped into the existing file. If a number of files are selected and dragged they may be sequentially dropped by clicking the 'commit' check tick in Photoshop. If a RAW file is dropped, the RAW interface opens to enable adjustments to be made. If subsequently this file (which is placed as a Smart Object) is double clicked, the RAW interface reopens so that further refinements may be made (a lossless process).nts may be made (a lossless process).

Files that may be dropped are PSD, TIFF, JPEG, PDF, AI, RAW and DNG types. When a layered file is dropped the flattened files shows as a smart object and is linked back to the original. If the original changes, the Smart Object flags the change and asks for a response. Again the original file may be opened by double clicking the Smart object in the Layers Palette.

ILLUSTRATOR CS5

Illustrator is the vector specialist of the Adobe Creative Suite and is mainly employed by graphics professionals when making illustrations and logos. Within The Societies it is used for logos, advertising backdrops and, in Professional Imagemaker, all diagrams and graphs are routed through Illustrator. At one time there was a suspicion amongst users that Illustrator would be subsumed into Photoshop, but this never happened and Illustrator retains a devoted following.

The headline features of the CS5 version (actually version 15 of Illustrator, it is older than Photoshop) are the variable width strokes, improved arrowheading and dashes, a brand new perspective drawing grid and a new multiple art board facility.
