Family Scene
David: 'I'd been in Rome and had seen an original Caravaggiopainting with light coming through the window, with anotherwindow in the background. Inspired by that I decided that I wantedto do a series of images that honoured Caravaggio as an artist andreflected my studying of his works. This was a family whose fatherhad passed away - one of my best friends - so we brought all thefamily in to the studio for this portrait. It was all shot in about fiveminutes in total, having got everyone in place and explained exactlywhat we were trying to do. The actions of the individuals representthe attributes that they have within the family. That could be aboutserving, loving their mother, loving music, or teaching their sons, oreven just hanging out together and braiding each other's hair!'

Luke: 'I think the real beauty of this shot is the power of your voice asa photographer. It isn't easy to get all these kids and different peopleto buy into an idea and focus for just that five-minute period so thatyou can capture this shot! It's very different to shooting differentparts and compositing them together later.'

Bride
Luke: 'This shot here is a great example of how we try to give deptheven to the images that we shoot on a wedding day. It was verysimply lit, just some ICE lights and some ambient light.'

David: 'We shot this at a mansion that was somebody's home, andI noticed that there were four Renoir paintings in the house, one ofwhich we sat on this small table. I wanted to symbolically show thebride having her last moments with her family before she went toher new life. So I call this shot her last moment with Renoir, becauseshe is looking at the work while she reflects on her life, beforebecoming a married woman.'
