What, No Fill Light? - part 6 of 1 2 3 4 5 6

An alternative to the form light would have the main light directly facing the subject and would then provide a little more modeling than in this image. But we are working with the form light and a simple modification provides the image No. 11, by eliminating the light nearest the camera (numbered 1 in the diagram).

However, the most relevant argument for the large soft box is to imitate window light that is desired to cover a larger set. But I would argue that we could create the same effect using strip banks.

The forgoing provides techniques that can change the way you think about lighting. Perhaps you will see value in using a technique that could dramatically change your style and cause you to experiment and discover a new emotion in your images. A new style of lighting may also separate you from your so-called competition, all of whom still use fill light as a standard operational method to light their clients.

And finally, maybe you don't need a fill light after all.
