Jones, Jones and McNamee at the Seaside - part 1 of 1

The Editor in conversation with Sarah Jones and Phil Jones with the Fuji S1 Pro!

In a world that is switching to digital faster than many can cope with, we decided to talk to Cambrian Photography to put some perspective on what is happening out there at the sharp end. Cambrian are a well established supplier (since 1946 in fact) and their experienced staff were able to provide some insights into the way the photographic business is developing (if you'll pardon the pun!). They have a staff of nine at their establishment in Colwyn Bay, North Wales, including Sarah Jones and the proprietor, Mark Duncalf. Both are qualified in Photography at National Diploma level, Sarah from Wrexham, Cartrefle and Mark from Blackpool & Fylde. Cambrian also provide photography as a service so you can see that there is a wealth of real experience on hand to advise prospective customers. And there is plenty to buy. The premises are like a Tardis - everything expands as you come through the door. They have a massive range of second hand equipment as well as substantial stocks of both new conventional and digital gear. The second hand selection is reckoned to be one of the largest in the North West.

Cambrian provides processing facilities for C41, E6 and a Fuji Frontier system for digital output. The latter is capable of accepting any format of digital input or film to 120 format. They are soon to provide also for the Hassleblad X-Pan Panoramic format. They are a Fuji pro Centre. and digital printing, which presently represents around 25% of their output is up to 15x10" from the Frontier or 24" wide from their state of the art inkjet system. The wide format inkjet can output to canvas, watercolour or conventional gloss materials at almost unlimited length. They provide package services for wedding photographers for both digital and conventional media. It's a sign of the times that the digital output is becoming less expensive than conventional for many types and sizes of output and that companies like Cambrian Photography are investing so heavily to provide output from digital originals.

Cambrian also stock telescopes for both astronomy and bird spotting (feathered type). They are one of a small number of approved centres for Meade telescopes and stock up to the LX. They also stock Astro accessories and CCD Cameras.

They take pride in their competitive pricing and will try and match any competition. They give 12 months guarantee on S/H purchases and can also offer a repair service.
