Delivering the Irish Charm - part 2 of 1 2

"I've attended the Convention every year since I joined," he says, " and have had the honour of speaking there on several occasions. I'm looking forward to delivering three workshops this time around, and will be presenting a selection of my tips and tricks on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I'll be talking about Photoshop plug-ins, particularly Nik software since I use it every day in my workflow and I find it so easy and it helps me to extend my creative ideas. I'll be showing delegates how I make my images stand out from the next photographer and things I'll be covering will include really cool black and white conversions - which are just sooo easy - as well as skin softening, textures, borders and much, much more.

"One thing that I'm hoping is that attendees coming along to my lectures will bring some of their own images along with them and I'll try to work with these so that they can see a live demonstration of how easy the things I am showing them really are, and how effective the results can be. I'm really looking forward to it and we'll have loads of fun."

Aside from his teaching, Podge is looking forward to the chance to experience the special flavour of a week at the Convention and he relishes the chance to network with other professional photographers and to visit the Trade Show with its abundance of new products and fresh ideas that can be taken away.

"As far as the workshops go you can always find something which will relate to you whatever kind of photography you might happen to be doing," he says. "It's all there, whether you're a wedding and portrait photographer or whether you might be more interested in another sector, such as landscape. It's a great opportunity to learn and I've got several sessions earmarked that I'm hoping to get along to.

"For a start I want to go and hear Michael Shilling talk about the ways in which he uses social media and I also want to see Tom Lee present his 'Innocence Turned' workshop, where he'll be talking about the fantasy art project that he's using to turn around his wedding photography business.

"I also want to see Ramon Sammut who is a Photoshop guru who will be talking about editing pictures in Camera Raw and Dave Montizambert from British Columbia who is presenting a workshop called 'Making Light Work' that deals with how to predict, control and create perfect ratios for lighting portraits and fashion/glamour imagery. It all goes to show what a great mix of subjects there are being covered at the Convention as usual and it's just a case of going through carefully and seeing what's out there that might prove useful.

"There are so many great speakers that you're spoiled for choice and it's an annual opportunity to get out there and to learn something new."
