We were whisked through Taipei to Elinchrom HQ to meet the team and plan the shows for the next four days. It was also an opportunity for me to have a play with the all new Elinchrom Pro HD lights. I'd seen them demonstrated but it was good to have a play given that I was supposed to be showcasing their abilities over the next few days!
They are a great piece of kit and easy to set up though and so I was instantly reassured that all would be good.
There followed four days of workshops and demonstrations to fantastically appreciative audiences. We were working with a great interpreter which made my life easier but by the end was exhausted with having to translate what I wanted to say into simple English that could then be translated into Chinese. I have to say my Chinese wasn't brilliant and could welcome the delegates to the workshop and that was about it! It was important to have Jade working with me. As we work regularly together she knew what I wanted before I asked quite often and could run with an idea as I wandered away from the plan (which I do regularly.) Our hosts had wondered why I was so vehement about taking one of my own models rather than working with a local.
By the end they totally understood that the working relationship was a huge bonus and added to the success of the sessions.
It wasn't all work - we also fitted in a shoot at sunrise on some rock formations at Keelung. We visited night markets and superb restaurants and had a couple of days to do some sightseeing at the end. We left Taipei exhausted but with a few thousand images and some very special memories. Back to Heathrow and if there's no rest for the wicked then I must have been a bad boy at some stage as I drove Jade back to Wakefield, met my wife Liz briefly in a hotel car park and swapped Jade for Alex so that I could go straight to Bolton then Bradford for the Digital Imaging Roadshows. By the time I got home I slept for almost two days solid, but wow it was worth it.
