Today we also have a choice between conventional and digital flash heads.
The more expensive digital heads offer more control over output level and more consistent colour temperature across the output range.
You get what you pay for As you go up the price scale you should be getting greater ease of use and flexibility of setting up or adjusting your lighting. If you have to break your system down you have to use flash stands, complete with their tripod legs which always seem to be in the way and always trip you when you are carrying a cup of tea. As soon as you go to a fixed installation you move into the overhead glide systems or wall booms - both are a joy to use, especially if you come from the less expensive solutions! Similarly if you want absolute control of your output colour temperature you are better served with the more expensive digital-oriented heads.

Speak to your supplier before plunging into location kit as you may wish to buy universal heads for use both in‑studio and on‑location. The kits listed left are dual purpose. There are also other options such as powering from your car battery or recharging from your car.
