So where was I? Oh yes, writing about the hard work everyone does. Between Christmas and New Year we had the December print judging and the final overall judging to find the SWPP Photographer of the Year, who wins an expenses paid trip to Las Vegas to attend the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International Convention. Congratulations to Steven Lord, who was the overall winner from an entry of thousands of prints submitted during the year. The judging started at 9am and lasted until we sat down for a meal at 6pm, beautifully prepared by Juliet. My thanks to all who took part.

There were nine of us to judge, catalogue and scan for the awards dinner presentation etc. After eating, was it time to relax? No! Then we started on further planning for the dinner.

The next week another full day planning meeting for the dinner took place and two days after the dinner the Digital Road Show was rolled out.

Think of the logistics. Three dates, 15th January in Glasgow, 16th January in Manchester and 17th January in London. All the gear had to be in place on 15th January in Glasgow. Hundreds of delegates to meet and greet. A full day of demonstrations and lectures. Then dismantle everything, load up and off to Manchester to be ready for the following morning. Another full day and off to London. Then, en-route home we caught up with Patricia Fernadez in Windsor where we were royally entertained (more of that later). Then what? Phil and Juliet are off to America to the WPPI convention and then back to the UK to prepare for Focus. That's what it is like being involved with the SWPP/BPPA. Lots of hard work and some tears, but very rewarding. With Phil and Juliet at the helm we are seeing the SWPP/BPPA grow into the most vital photographic organisation in the UK!
