What's your mindset when you get up in the mornings?
I need coffee! Then stand by the back door, mug-inhandand survey my garden which always makes mefeel extremely positive, even in the depths of winter- beauty is all around and it makes me smile just tobe here and living a full life. There's a friendly magpiewho is always waiting to say good morning too!
Do you work alone or employ staff?
I've hand-picked my wedding team, and now have acommercial business too - Carle & Moss CommercialPhotography. We're also about to launch a new sideto the wedding business, for which I've sourced anexpert in the field, as it's not something I'm trainedin - exciting times!
Did it take you long to establish your name and brand?
No, I managed this pretty quickly - I spent 15 yearsworking in advertising and branding providing asolid grounding to grow my brand. For me brandconsistency is key - how my brand makes you thinkand feel. Nikki Kirk Photography is still relatively new, in business terms, however, we are already well known for delivering ahigh level of client service. This, combined with the gravitas of the brandprovides a comfort factor for our clients and in turn means that we quicklybecame well known.
What's the one piece of kit - camera aside, that you wouldn't be withoutand why?
My Lowel i-Light - it's a really great piece of portable kit that allows meto shoot in the gloomiest of settings without the need for flash - it's soversatile. I'd like to say a public thank you to my assistant Kim for being mytrusty grip!
Why weddings, was it that wonderful Cheltenham locale and gorgeousvenues?
I just love a good wedding and I think it's because you never quite knowwhat's going to happen! I have an outline format, however, but what thenhappens as each individual day progresses is anyone's guess. Weddings area challenge of logistics and people management - things I excelled at inmy previous employment, so I guess it was only natural that I would followa similar path in my photography career. As a wedding photographer youhave to be able to react quickly and I love that challenge!
Tell me about winning Best Photographer in the Cotswolds 2015.
I'm a Cotswolds girl born and bred so winning the very first award for BestPhotographer in the Cotswolds, was really quite something especially as itwas a public vote. That was a rather a special day and a real wake-up callfor me as it meant people notice, value and appreciate what I do. I thinkwhen you run your own business you don't always take time to sit backand think, job well done or let the praise and recognition sink, as life isoften just too busy.
