Is it primarily about the chance to learn from the experiences of imaging icons?
Absolutely, there are so many nice people sharing knowledge, people from all over the world with lots of experience. It’s more valuable than any traditional education, college, university etc. You can learn from actual working photographers.

Your own mentors (living or dead)?
There are lots of people who inspire me, I could write a huge list. All of the judges from the 20x16 competition have had an influence on me. Gordon MCGowan really helped me fine tune my photography, the whole Societies community!
Outside of photography I love the philosopher Alan Watts.

Who today is leading the way in creative social photography and why?
I’m not sure who is leading the way anymore. It’s pretty stagnant in the UK in general, people just copy other people and it’s very boring, I’d like to see more innovation and originality.

If you could pick just FIVE seminars (other than your own of course!) to attend at The Societies of Photographers Convention whose workshops would you attend?
It all depends on what you what to learn really, there are too many to mention and most of the speakers are my friends, they’re all doing something cool, no seminar is ever a waste of time. Check out seminars that are related to your interests and I’m sure you’ll have a good time.

What do you think will be the next big thing in the industry?
If I knew that, I probably wouldn’t tell you.

Would you want your own children to take up the reins of your empire (or have they)?
I wouldn’t ‘not’ want them to, but they are doing their own thing creatively and will hopefully make a living doing so.

Your plans for the next five years?
Plans lead to expectations and expectations lead to disappointment.
