The effect of head strikes, which smear any residual ink onto the paper and scuff the edges of the print.
MIND THE GAP
Many printers allow the user to change the platen gap, that is the clearance between the inking heads and the paper surface. This can provide some measure of relief against head strikes although there is a limit to how much it can cope with. In the Epson driver, the platen gap is accessed and changed in the 'Paper Configuration' menu. Here settings from 'Wider' to 'Narrow' are available.
